During this span, the $100,000 and $1,000,000 prizes saw a win-loss record of 5-30, including back-to-back losses in April 2019, and four $1,000,000 losses across Seasons 35 and 36 (it took five and a half years for the million just to get its first loss). The era started off with very noticeable budget cuts, including decreasing some of the higher values on the Wheel and retiring road shows (with one exception), plus a sudden change in the music package that the majority of viewers did not care for.

This displacement is made more obvious in recent years, with the show's constant references to whichever nighttime season it's on, thus disregarding the long run that the daytime version had already built up come 1983.
